True friends aren’t convenient

Recently I had someone tell me that people are only friends with others when it’s convenient for both of them. However, I must disagree. I guess maybe it was the long distance relationship I was in for four years that taught me different. It’s not that hard to pick up a phone and call someone or schedule regular Skype dates or maybe even not talk for months and just be able to pick right back up where you left off.

When I was told that, I literally got the most dumb-founded look on my face and wanted to ask the person if they had any real friends. As someone who has friends all over the country, none of my friendships are convenient. Some of the girls I call my friends, I’ve met once, or maybe not even ever (you know who you are)! BUT we know a lot of what goes on in each other’s day-to-day lives and are there at the push of a button for that person as soon as our phones go off.

Like I mentioned above, maybe it is because I have learned how to have a relationship, even when it sucks, but when you really care about someone, as a friend or more than, you make time for them. You make time for their problems, concerns, issues, everything.

I have friends here, and even those friendships aren't the easiest to maintain. Everyone has things going on that they have to make time for those they want in their lives. But if you want someone in your life, you make time for them. I also have friends who have moved to different states, which I might not get to talk to as much as I’d like to, but that’s because we all have separate lives. But we’re still there for each other if anything happens. I can honestly say that I am truly blessed for the network and group of friends that I have and those people mean the world to me.

So to the person that told me friends are only friends when it’s convenient, I’m sorry you don’t have awesome people in your life that mean everything to you and that everything has to be convenient for you.
